How many hours should we book a wedding photographer? (and second photographer)

Generally the bigger your wedding party & guest number are, the longer coverage we would need to accommodate the extra time spent in organizing people (& possible delays). On the other hand, if you plan to have an intimate wedding with just your close family & friends, then a shorter coverage might be the better choice. See details below and find out what suits best for you!

12 hours if you...

  • plan to travel between locations

  • have a big wedding party (this means bridesmaids, groomsmen & the couple) / have 100+ guests

  • have a time gap between ceremony & reception

  • want extra portraits taken & every small detail to be captured

10 hours if you...

  • plan to travel between locations

  • have first look/tea ceremony/door games/other traditions

  • want everything documented (from getting ready to reception dance floor)

8 hours if you...

  • plan to have everything in one location

  • ceremony is followed by cocktail hour & reception right away

  • want to cover a bit more than just the essentials (from the final part of getting ready to reception cake cutting)

6 hours if you…

  • plan to have everything in one location

  • just want to cover all the essentials (ceremony, family photos, first dance & cake cutting)

  • don’t care too much about the details (decor design, getting ready, other reception activities)

Do we need a second photographer?

When it comes to hiring a second photographer, the biggest consideration is whether the bride & groom will be getting ready at two separate locations. If your wedding is rather intimate, then instead of a second photographer, booking a longer coverage could also work too (photograph groom’s side first, then travel to bride’s side). See details below.

Yes if you…

  • have 100+ guests

  • are getting ready at different locations at the same time

  • like to have a second angle

  • have a tight schedule (e.g. I can capture first look while second photographer captures ceremony decor)

Maybe if you…

  • have a short ceremony (& shorter vows)

  • are getting ready at different locations

  • have a big wedding party

No if…

  • intimate wedding is your style

  • have less than 30 guests
