(BTS video in the end!!)
Annie and I met in 2016. Annie initiated a photography exhibition called Ulterior Motif to reveal and celebrate 12 women’s alter egos. Recently, she chatted with me again to get a few professional photos taken for her personal brand - The Matchmaker Club.
We sat down at Buro The Espresso Bar, a contemporary style corner coffee shop in Gastown, Vancouver. Annie’s job as a matchmaker largely involves meeting people at coffee shops, so my main focus was to capture her chatting with clients. She did an awesome job in this shoot because there was no client on the other side of the table! :P
In additional to capturing her as an easygoing and trustworthy person, I also wanted to show how intelligent and powerful she is as a woman and a mom.
A funny little story from this photoshoot - when I was taking this photo (below) outside the cafe through the window, some people walking down the street thought she was a celebrity and started taking photos of her too using their cell phones!
Her second look was a taffy pink outfit. We wanted to shoot at the rainbow crosswalk on Davie Street as a way to add some diversity to the shoot. Annie was a little bit nervous about shooting on the street because so many people are passing by. BUT she nailed it!!
If you are curious about how we created these photographs, check out this BTS video made by Annie’s husband.
